PSV have climbed to the top of the table after securing a comfortable 4-1 victory against Sparta in Rotterdam on Sunday afternoon. Lazovic, Zonneveld and Farfán virtually wrapped up the win at half time with three first-half goals.

Lazovic gave PSV a dream start with only 53 seconds on the clock. Perez picked up the ball down the left before squaring it back to the incoming Lazovic and the hitman coolly sent a left-foot tap-in past Sparta goalkeeper Westerveld. So PSV, with Jefferson Farfán, Danny Koevermans, Danko Lazovic, Kenneth Perez and Otman Bakkal all included in the starting line-up, were soon rewarded for their attacking intentions with the flying start.
The hosts also moved forward in an entertaining game, so PSV had plenty of space to start counter attacks. Lindenberg was not booked for a vicious tackle on Koevermans after eleven minutes, but Zonneveld superbly curled the resulting free kick with precision and had Westerveld beaten. PSV earned another free kick after 25 minutes, from the same distance on the left flank. Farfán stepped up and the Peruvian scored his second goal of the season from a well-struck free kick, leaving goalkeeper Westerhof again without a chance.
PSV then took feet off the pedal in the closing stages of the first half. The home side first rightly claimed a penalty, when Bakkal clearly handled Polak's free kick in the area. Seconds later Zonneveld played a poor backpass to Gomes, but no Sparta forward was on hand to take advantage.

Zonneveld had picked up a calf injury and was replaced at half-time by Alcides. PSV's rhythm faltered after the break and Koeman made another substituation, taking off Farfán in favour of Mendez after 63 minutes. With twenty minutes remaining PSV earned yet another free kick and Perez was on target to make it four. Sparta were offered a consolation thirteen minutes from time, when referee Van Egmond pointed to the spot after Bakkal had committed a minor foul. Polak coolly converted from the penalty. PSV were never in danger and cruised to a convenient 4-1 win. This weekend's results leave PSV two points clear at the top of the table.
