Foppe de Haan, coach of the Dutch Olympic team, has called up Ismail Aissati for Tuesday's friendly against Romania in Venlo. The Dutch team qualified for next year's Olympic Games in Beijing, after they won the UEFA European Championship Under-21.
After consulting PSV, De Haan decided not to call up Aissati for Friday's Euro 2009 qualifying game against Macedonia Under-21. De Haan thinks the friendly against Romania is an ideal test for the young midfielder who is training hard in a bid to get match fit.
'Aissati called me to inform me he feels he is falling behind. I then contacted PSV fitness coach Luc van Agt. By mutual agreement, we have decided not to call up Aissati to the Netherlands Under-21 squad, but he will be available for the friendly against Romania on Tuesday', said de Haan. Otman Bakkal and Dirk Marcellis may join their PSV team mate Aissati in the Olympic team.
