Guus Hiddink has done it again! After he had already guided the Netherlands, South Korea and Australia to great successes, he has now sent the Russians into ecstasy. Russia secured an unexpected place at the Euro 2008 following England's 3-2 sensational defeat by Croatia and Russia's slender 1-0 victory away against Andorra.

England failed to qualify for Euro 2008 after suffering a 3-2 defeat in a sensational game against Croatia at Wembley on a Wednesday night of high drama. The hosts needed just one point to book their place at Euro 2008. The Croatians, who had already secured qualification, took a 2-0 lead in the first fifteen minutes. The home side pulled level after the break, but a goal from substitute Petric thirteen minutes from time sent England crashing out.
Russia enjoyed a slender 1-0 victory against Andorra, which was enough to book a place in next summer's tournament in Austria and Switzerland. Two more Dutch coaches have also gained successes abroad lately: Leo Beenhakker steered Poland to the Euro 2008 and former PSV head coach Dick Advocaat led Zenit St Petersburg to their first Russian title since 1984 earlier this month.
Hiddink seems to be able to make everything work and guide the teams he coaches to success and his success story just goes on. Hiddink steered Holland to the World Cup semi-finals in 1998. His managerial achievements in guiding South Korea to the World Cup 2002 semi-finals and PSV to three Dutch titles and a UEFA Champions League semi-final place have been widely applauded. He steered Australia to the World Cup 2006 and now he has miraculously managed to get Russia to the European Championship. It was another narrow escape, but Guus Hiddink is regarded as one of the best coaches in football.
