PSV General Manager Jan Reker, Technical Director Stan Valckx and manager Sef Vergoossen have confirmed at a press briefing at De Herdgang training centre on Tuesday afternoon that PSV have reached agreement with the Italian club Fiorentina for the transfer of 21-year-old Manuel da Costa, subject to a medical and the completion of formalities.
The Portuguese defender left De Herdgang this morning and travelled to Italy to undergo a medical and complete formalities. Vergoossen admitted that he felt Da Costa looked to get his season back on track. He said that PSV may bolster their squad, but refused to present media representatives any names of players that PSV might be monitoring.
Da Costa, the Portuguese, who was born in France 6 May 1986, joined PSV in 2006. He made two Champions League starts for the Eindhoven outfit this season, and was also included in PSV's starting line-up in a much-discussed Dutch Cup tie against Young sc Heerenveen. PSV coasted to a 3-0 win, but were excluded from the tournament as Da Costa was not eligible to play because of a one-match suspension he still had to serve because of two yellow cards in last season's competition. Da Costa, who had a spell with the French club AS Nancy before he joined PSV, made his first start in PSV colours on 20 September 2006 in PSV's 2-0 Cup win over amateurs Kozakken Boys.
