PSV put in a scrappy first-half display in Sweden on Thursday night, but wrapped up things against Helsingborgs IF straight after the break. Bakkal opened the scoring, putting the result of the two-legged game beyond doubt, and soon afterwards Lazovic killed off the game. PSV have booked a place in the UEFA Cup Round of 16 and will meet Tottenham Hotspur.

PSV may have met expectations as they reached the next round, but they put in a rather disappointing first-half display, failing to take control in the first forty-five minutes. However, they broke the deadlock two minutes into the second half and realised they had virtually accomplished their mission. Tottenham Hotspur held on for a 1-1 draw against Slavia Prague to earn a tie against PSV.
PSV, who had included Méndez in their starting eleven in place of Kromkamp who was ruled out due to a knee injury, defended a 2-0 lead from the first leg in Eindhoven. Skulason was cautioned in the first minute as the Swedes made it clear they intended to put pressure on the PSV defence. They won several corners and a free kick in the first fifteen minutes, but PSV managed to control the game. Lazovic had a chance, but fired over the bar. PSV then survived a few scares. Larsson handled the ball before unleashing a powerful shot and Jakobsson sent an effort agonisingly wide of the post. Larsson has another chance, while PSV frequently lost possession of the ball. Helsingborg came close to scoring the opener, but at the other end Afellay just failed to connect with a cross.

PSV killed off the game straight after the restart. Zonneveld superbly set up Bakkal, who placed a well-struck left-footed strike past the goalkeeper; 0-1. PSV were home and dry as Helsingborgs IF now needed to score four goals to reach the next round. The visitors doubled their advantage after 65 minutes, when Bakkal, who should be nominated for a 'man of the match' performance, turned provider for Lazovic and the Serbian striker took his European tally to three goals; 0-2. PSV were in the driver's seat and Koevermans came on for Lazovic while Aissati came off the bench to replace Afellay. PSV head coach Vergoossen made a third substitution when he brought on Rajkovic for Dzsuzsák. Ten minutes from time substitute Castan scored a consolation from close range. PSV fly back home on Friday morning and will start preparing for Sunday's Eredivisie clash with De Graafschap at the Philips Stadium in Eindhoven. Tottenham Hotspur will host the return leg in London on 6 March.
