PSV are wary of the strength of Fiorentina, who currently lie fifth in the Italian Serie A. 'We were impressed by Tottenham Hotspur, but Fiorentina are even a better side. One mistake could prove to be fatal but we feel we can get a result here', said Vergoossen at the press conference ahead of Thursday´s game.

Vergoossen held a briefing for the Italian and Dutch reporters previewing the game in the small pressroom at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. The PSV head coach announced that Alcides, who has joined the squad for training after he had shaken off a knee probleem, would face a late fitness test. Vergoossen is way of the strength of Fiorentina. 'They are capable of starting flowing moves, but will also play long balls, as they play two physically strong strikers up front. They have a well-balanced uithield that can switch quickly from defense to attack.'

Vergoossen knows that one mistake could prove to be fatal on Thursday night. 'We obviously take our opponent very seriously, but we feel we can get a result here. We take each game as it comes and the final in Manchester is not on our mind yet.'
Striker Jefferson Farfán feels confident PSV will do a good job in the UEFA Cup quarter finals, which he refers to as 'a wonderful stage to show your skills'. Fiorentina are a good side with quality strikers. We will fight as a team and hope to win trophies, although the domestic league is of paramount importance.'

An Italian reporter asked Farfán how he felt about the interest Fiorentina showed in him last season. ' I was informed but right now PSV comes first. My contract with PSV runs until 2010, so I focus exclusivily on PSV.'
