International referee Luís Medina Cantalejo from Spain has been appointed to take charge of the UEFA Cup quarter-final second leg between PSV and Fiorentina at the Philips Stadium on Thursday night. PSV will defend the 1-1 draw from last week's first leg at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

The 44-year-old Luís Medina Cantalejo is an experienced referee and has been in charge of PSV games before. He officiated at the UEFA Champions League PSV v AS Monaco at the Philips Stadium in February 2005, when a goal from Alex gave PSV a 1-0 victory. PSV were eliminated from the UEFA Cup that season, only when they suffered defeat against AC Milan in the semi-finals. Luís Medina Cantalejo was fourth official at the UEFA Cup tie Leeds United v PSV in 2002. He also refereed the World Cup 2006 match between Australia and Italy, when Guus Hiddink's Socceroos suffered a 1-0 defeat, thanks to a late-gasp penalty. Medina Cantalejo will be assisted by compatriots Victoriano Giraldez and Victoriano Diaz Casado, with Carlos Velasco Carballo acting as fourth official. PSV - Fiorentina kicks off on Thursday night at 20:45.
