Ibrahim Afellay is ruled out of the UEFA Cup quarter final second leg with Fiorentina on Thursday night. The midfielder announced the news on Tuesday afternoon, after he had a scan taken at hospital earlier on the day. Afellay sustained an ankle injury during Sunday's Eredivisie clash with Heracles Almelo.
Ibrahim Afellay collided with Heracles Almelo captain Rob Maas. 'He firmly stood on my ankle and I immediately felt something was definitely wrong.' Although the result of the scan is not known yet and the exact nature of the injury will still be revealed, Afellay knows he is ruled out of the Fiorentina clash. Afellay will also miss Sunday's crucial Eredivisie game with FC Twente, as he serves a one-match ban. The same goes for Jefferson Farfán, who has been handed a one-match ban by the UEFA for the return leg against Fiorentina.
