Sef Vergoossen felt PSV had shown determination and resilience to come from behind and draw 1-1 with FC Twente. The PSV head coach told reporters at the post-match conference that PSV were so anxious to win. 'That's why it is very disappointing we haven't been able to grab all three points. Conceding the opening goal was a setback and it took a while before we could cope with that', said Vergoossen.
'I think we put in a fine first-half display', said Vergoossen. 'We started brightly and showed spirit. We desperately wanted to win. We came close to scoring the opening goal a few times in the first half, but were unlucky. Conceding the opening goal was a setback, though. We needed some time to recover and were forced to take risks in order to get back on level terms. We played with spirit, as we were anxious to win the game. We have played twice as many games as FC Twente the past few months. I'm not looking for excuses, but the hectic fixture list has certainly taken its toll. You just can't expect us to produce sparkling performances. I am proud of the great team ethic and the resilience we have shown, but I am left with feelings of disappointment we have failed to clinch the title today.'
His FC Twente colleague Fred Rutten thought his side had produced an excellent performance. 'We were well organised in defence, controlled proceedings in midfield and had chances to wrap up the points. Unfortunately we failed to record a win. Smelling blood, you should actually take your chance.'
