Real Madrid were crowned champions of Spain for the 31st time in their rich history and so the former PSV stars Ruud van Nistelrooy and Arjen Robben, along with their country fellowmen Wesley Sneijder and Royston Drenthe embarked on a tour of Madrid on an open-top bus to be cheered by jubilant supporters along the route. The parade ended at the beautiful Plaza de Cibeles, with the famous Cibeles fountain, where tens of thousands of Real Madrid fans traditionally converge, to celebrate their team's successes.
The Madrileños secured their 31st Spanish league title with a late-gasp 2-1 win over Osasuna on Sunday night. Arjen Robben played a major role, scoring the equaliser with a glancing header three minutes from time. Ruud van Nistelrooy celebrated his second league title with Real Madrid in as many years. The celebrations traditionally take place at the Plaza de Cibeles, with the statue of Cibeles, the Phrygian goddess of fertility. The greatest moment in the evening came when Real Madrid captain Raúl kissed the Cibeles statue to celebrate the Spanish league championship and draped a Spanish flag and a club scarf around the statue of the goddess, after which the squad danced the conga around the fountain.
