Reker and Van den Bunder were among the 103 ECA members invited to the inaugural ECA general assembly, along with representatives of Ajax and AZ. The former German football legend Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has been elected chairman of the ECA. Feyenoord is also an ECA member on the basis of their successes gained in the past but the club from Rotterdam has no right to vote. Maarten Fontein, AZ's Commercial Affairs & Marketing manager, joined the executive board of the newly-formed association on Tuesday.
Jan Reker has handed an important role in the face of changing face of European football. PSV's General Manager will be a member of the study group league structure where he will develop and defend his plans to extend the UEFA Champions League tournament to 48 clubs. Marcel van den Bunder will be a member of the study group marketing. All in all, five study groups have been launched. The ECA intends to meet twice a year and the study groups will meet six times a year in principle.
