PSV Media - If Erik Pieters successfully passes a medical test today, the 19-year-old promising defender will sign a four-year contract with PSV. The clubs reached an agreement on a transfer today, after Pieters had already agreed personal terms with PSV earlier this week. 'I definitely see it as a step forward in my career.'
'Things have gone so quickly for me'
19-year-old Erik Pieters started his career as a professional player only two seasons ago and admitted that it was a 'dream come true' to complete a move to the Philips Stadium. 'I realise only too well that things have gone so quickly. I became a professional football player two seasons ago and made my Eredivisie debut eighteen months ago. I definitely see it as a step forward in my career. I met our coach and I have a good feeling about things here. I am looking forward to meeting my new team mates and getting on the pitch and playing football', said PSV's latest summer signing.
'I want to play attacking football'
Pieters likes to play in centre of defence, but is set to make appearances for PSV as a full left back. 'I like being played a left back as well. It's my position in the Holland U-21 team. I am a defender with an attacking spirit. I like to be involved in starting good flowing moves. Last season, FC Utrecht boss Willem van Hanegem taught me how to join the attack, playing an overlapping defender's role, while my former coach Foeke Booy paid a lot of attention on how to mark an opponent.'
