Huub Stevens has enjoyed his first week of pre-season training as head coach of PSV. 'The summer signings and several youngsters have settled in nicely', said Stevens, who told reporters that the Brazilian Jonathan Reis will face a lengthy spell on the sidelines. 'A bone scan revealed a small crack in his left foot.'
'Jonathan guilty of a lack of professionalism'
Jonathan Reis broke his foot during a training session in March and was expected to have his foot in plaster for between six and eight weeks. The Brazilian then decided to remove the plaster himself, ahead of schedule indicated by the doctors. 'You might say that he is guilty of a lack of professionalism, and he has ended up with his foot in plaster again', said Stevens. Reis was forced to hobble off the training pitch on Friday morning after he had sustained another injury. 'He picked up the injury during a practise game at training. Let's hope he has learned his lesson now. He should leave it to the doctors to remove plaster.'
Méndez and Kromkamp
There is some good news coming out of the Philips Stadium as Edison Méndez and Jan Kromkamp are recovering well from their injuries. 'Méndez is back on the training pitch and it makes me happy to see him in action. I thought he would be ruled out for a long time, but he appears to be ahead of schedule with his return from injury', said Stevens. Jan Kromkamp is also making good progress after recovering from a knee operation. 'He complained of knee pain some weeks ago but he is now rehabilitating and exercising sore muscles, which is an indication that he is on the right track.'
