This morning, the Third Qualifying Round of the Champions League was made at UEFA's headquarters in Nyon in Switzerland. FC Twente have been paired with Arsenal. The Dutch side will welcome Arsène Wenger's team at the Gelredome in Arnhem on August 12 or 13, before they travel to the Emirates Stadium in London for the second leg on August 26 or 27.
Interesting ties
Steve McLaren, the English manager who succeeded Fred Rutten at FC Twente, will face an uphill battle in his native country. Arsenal, with, among other players, Robin van Persie, finished in third place in the Premier League last season. FC Twente will play host to the Gunners in Arnhem, as works to their own Grolsch Veste have not been completed yet. This morning's draw saw some other interesting ties come up: FC Schalke 04 - Atletico Madrid (with Fred Rutten, Jefferson Farfán and Orlando Engelaar against John Heitinga), Standard Liege - Liverpool, Fiorentina - Slavia Prague and Galatasaray - Steaua Bucharest. The winners will go through to the group stage. By winning the league title in Holland, PSV have ensured automatic qualification into the 2008/09 UEFA Champions League.
