Holland kick off their World Cup qualifying campaign on Wednesday when they take on Macedonia. The Dutch team trained last night to prepare for their opening game that kicks off at 20:30 CET. PSV is represented by midfielder Ibrahim Afellay, and Holland coach Bert van Marwijk has named many former PSV players in this squad.
Macedonia
Holland last met Macedonia at the end of 2004 in a World Cup qualifier. Marco van Basten's team were held to a 2-2 draw in Skopje. Wilfred Bouma opened the scoring for Holland. Goran Pandev drew level for the hosts before Holland regained the lead through a Dirk Kuyt goal. Stojkov scored an equaliser twenty minutes from time. Last weekend's results definitely proved there are no easy games in international football any longer. France slipped to a 3-1 defeat against Austria, while Italy only pulled off a 2-1 win over 'minnows' Cyprus in the dying minutes. And Macedonia saw off Scotland 1-0, so the Dutch should be wary of the Macedonia danger.
