Jan Kromkamp made his comeback to competitive football last night when Young PSV played host to their Heerenveen counterparts. Kromkamp trained separately during pre-season after he had undergone knee surgery at the end of last season. He played 45 minutes of Young PSV's 2-1 win on Monday night.
Second win
Young PSV made amends for last week's 3-1 defeat at FC Twente by recording a 2-1 victory against Heerenveen at the Herdgang training complex. Nigel Hasselbaink and Jasper Waalkens were on target for the home side, while Pedro Beda pulled one back for sc Heerenveen who had included Bonaventura Kalou in their starting line-up. PSV created most of the chances in an entertaining game. Lars Hutten came close when a Frisian defender kicked the ball straight at his own keeper. The ball fell to Hutten who could not force it over the line. Arne Nilis also went close for PSV when his superb lob just cleared the bar. Nilis and Kromkamp were replaced by Hasselbaink and Eelco Horsten at half time. The substitution paid off almost immediately when Hasselbaink broke the deadlock. Fifteen minutes later, Waalkens doubled PSV's lead with a strike from the edge of the penalty area. The visitors from Friesland reduced the deficit fifteen minutes from time, but PSV held out comfortably for the win. Young PSV moved to sixth position with six points from four matches. Young N.E.C. top the table with three consecutive wins. Young PSV will play …. PSV in the second round of the Dutch Cup on 23 September; kick off at 18:45. They were eligible to participate after winning the Dutch Cup for reserve teams last season.
