FC Groningen reclaimed their place at the top of the Eredivisie, one day after PSV had climbed to first spot, following a 3-0 win over De Graafschap. FC Groningen also recorded a 3-0 victory, at home against ADO Den Haag on Sunday afternoon. They have thirteen points from their five opening games, one more than PSV.
Ajax and Feyenoord suffer defeat
Ajax as well as Feyenoord suffered defeat on Sunday afternoon. Feyenoord even slipped to their third defeat of the campaign, after they were beaten 2-0 at the Rotterdam Kuip by N.E.C., courtesy of goals from former PSV striker Tim Janssen and Saidi Ntibazonkiza, who opened his scoring account for N.E.C.
Ajax made a trip to sc Heerenveen and were outclassed by their Frisian opponents in an entertaining match. With ten minutes remaining, Ajax were four goals downs. They managed to pull two back, but the hosts had the final word; 5-2. Gerald Sibon and Danijel Pranjic bagged a brace each for the home side and former PSV winger Roy Beerens added a fifth goal.
NAC Breda record a win
NAC Breda, who play host to PSV on 18 October, claimed their third victory in a row, as they beat FC Volendam 4-2. Matthew Amoah scored a double for the visitors, while Kees Kwakman and Anthony Lurling also got their names on the score sheet. NAC Breda are level on points with PSV, with twelve points from five games, but PSV have a slightly better goal difference. FC Twente suffered their first defeat of the 2008/09 season at De Galgenwaard at the hands of FC Utrecht; 3-0.
