PSV coach Huub Stevens announced at the media briefing at De Herdgang on Tuesday afternoon that Phillip Cocu, who has taken up a trainee coaching role with the PSV highest junior team, will be involved more in senior squad coaching. 'He will coach young talented players one hour extra a week.'
Heavy schedule
The 37-year future coach left PSV in the summer of 2007, after he had signed a one-year deal with United Arab Emirates club Al-Jazeer and returned to PSV to take up a trainee coaching role with the PSV highest junior team, where he co-operates with Ernest Faber. 'He attended a team meeting on Monday', said Stevens, who was delighted with the part played by Cocu, who has 101 caps for the national side. 'Phillip Cocu will be with the first team more often, as he is here anyway to do a traineeship. He has not been added to the coaching staff, though. His heavy schedule does not leave him much time. He is doing a football coaching course, has started a traineeship with PSV and is assistant coach of the Dutch national team, so is working long hours and working hard.' Stevens thinks Cocu can make a valuable contribution. 'We're having a poor run of results and we have asked him to help us. He will coach young talented players one hour extra a week and I'm sure the youngsters will greatly benefit from his valuable advices.'
