Today this page will take you through the month of November. Danny Koevermans took his Champions League scoring tally to four goals and also netted a superb goal in the Dutch league. PSV were knocked out of the KNVB Cup but gained successes in the Superleague Formula.
PSV slipped to defeat in away games
PSV enjoyed a 2-0 victory at home against Willem II. Willem II defender Swinkels opened the scoring for PSV with an unfortunate own goal and Danny Koevermans wrapped up the three points with a superb goal that was deservedly voted goal of the month. PSV then suffered an away defeat at the hands of N.E.C (1-0) and their troubles continued on 16 November with a 4-1 defeat at Ajax. Huub Stevens' team bounced back to wining ways as they recorded an emphatic 4-0 home win over Heracles Almelo. One week later, PSV came back from two goals down to salvage a point away at sc Heerenveen. Stefan Nijland opened his scoring account for PSV with a late equaliser at the Abe Lenstra Stadium, preventing PSV from slipping to their sixth consecutive away defeat. There was further disappointment for PSV as they were knocked out of KNVB Cup in the third round at AZ in Alkmaar. David Mendes da Silva got the only goal eight minutes into extra time. Jan Kromkamp returned to the lineup against AZ, playing for the first time since sustaining a groin injury at home to Marseille on 22 October, yet was taken off on a stretcher after 28 minutes having injured his ankle.
Hopes to continue European adventure hugely dented
PSV faced Olympique Marseille in a crucial Champions League group D encounter om Matchday 4. Their hopes of continuing their European adventure were hugely dented as they lost 3-0 at Marseille, a defeat that sent them to the foot of the table, with the French side leapfrogging them thanks to a superior head-to-head record. Atlético Madrid met PSV at Vicente Calderón on 26 November. The match was played behind closed doors as PSV again slipped to defeat. (2-1) Danny Koevermans scored his Champions League fourth goal in five matches.
PSV finished second in Superleague Formula standings
PSV achieved successes in the inaugural Superleague Formula racing competition. Driver Yelmer Buurman completed the season as the highest placed Dutchman, scoring 337 points to finish the championship in second position. Countryman Robert Doornbos, the AC Milan driver, finished third, having collected 335 points. Chinese club Beijing Guoan earned the Superleague Formula 'Premiership' on 413 points. 'This is a great reward for the whole team', said Buurman after the final race in Spain. 'This is a fabulous achievement. We finished second and I think we are entitled to feel proud of ourselves.' The PSV team is run by Azerti team boss Wim Coeckelbergs, well known from his successful Racing for Belgium team.
