PSV has reached agreement with Ola Toivonen on a three-and-a-half-year deal, with the option for a further two seasons. The 22-year-old Swedish forward will undergo a medical on Thursday morning before joining his new PSV team mates for his maiden training session on Thursday afternoon.
Toivonen will be making appearances in PSV colours for the next three-and-a-half seasons. His deal includes the option of a further two years. PSV are delighted to have signed the talented Swede who joins PSV from Malmö FF. 'Ola Toivonen is a great addition to the team. He is a quality player who possesses great skills. I am delighted Ola has signed', said PSV coach Huub Stevens. PSV's General Manager Jan Reker is also pleased with the signing of Toivonen, who had spells at Degerfors and Örgryte, before he made a move to Malmö FF. 'We are happy we have further strengthened our squad with the signing of Ola Toivonen', announced Reker on Thursday morning. On 3 March 1986, Toivonen was born in Degerfors, also the birthplace of legendary PSV striker Ralf Edström. PSV's January signing, 1.90 m and 74 kg, has earned two caps for Sweden.
Tenth Swedish player
Ola Toivonen is the tenth Swedish player who has made a move to PSV. Dan Ekner (1958-1960), Anders Svenson (1959-1963), Björn Nordqvist (1972-1975), Ralf Edström (1973-1977), Peter Dahlqvist (1974-1977), Torbjörn Nilsson (1976-1978), Glenn Hysn (1983-1986) and Klas Ingesson (1993-1994) also played in PSV colours. Toivonen will be the second Swedish player in the current PSV squad, following the signing of fellow countryman Andreas Isaksson in the summer of 2008. The new PSV signing will wear Mika Vyrynen's No 7 shirt. PSV will train at the Philips Stadium this afternoon at 2.30pm.
