PSV got off to a disappointing start of the second half of the season. Their poor away record continued â€' they have won only two away games this season so far - as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Roda JC, who lie sixteenth in the table. PSV have Timmy Simons scored PSV's goal from the penalty spot.
Plenty of first-half chances for PSV
Midfielder Méndez returned to the starting line-up, while Cássio Ramos made his Eredivisie debut. The Brazilian keeper replaced first-choice regular Isaksson, who was ill. PSV had a number of goalscoring opportunities in the initial stages. Lazovic was pulled down by his marker Kah after three minutes, but referee Wegereef ignored the penalty plea. Minutes later, Lazovic just failed to connect with a sharp cross and Lazovic, again, had an effort cleared off the line by De Fauw. PSV dominated proceedings but failed to convert their attacking dominance into goals. On the half hour mark, Lazovic, left completely unmarked, sent a header wide. Afellay tested Castro with a long-distance shot that the keeper pushed away. PSV started a well-worked move on the stroke of half-time. Dzsudzsák had a golden opportunity in front of the Roda JC goal but could not finish. At the other end, Davy de Fauw suddenly had a great chance to open the scoring, but keeper Cássio Ramos made a super save from the defender's header.
Two goals in the space of one minute
Roda JC improved after the break. They moved men forward and created some chances. PSV lost control and survived a scare when the home side almost broke the deadlock from a corner. Afellay had a shot on goal and when Bakkal unleashed an effort, the ball hit Kah on the arm and the referee pointed to the spot. Captain Timmy Simons stepped up and was fortunate to slot in the penalty after 60 minutes; 0-1. It turned out to be only a short-lived lead, for Roda JC leveled the score in the same minute. A cross was delivered from the left flank. Cássio Ramos left his line but failed to gather as the ball drifted in front of him and Jansen rose above his marker Pieters to head the ball into the empty net; 1-1. Amrabat was brought on as a substitute for Lazovic in the 65th minute and Koevermans came on to replace Bakkal six minutes later. Wegereef did not award PSV a penalty when De Jong handled the ball in the area. PSV launched a series of attacks in a bid to snatch a late victory, but Castro brought out fine saves from Koevermans and Dzsudzsák. On Monday, PSV will start preparations for their next outing, at home against NAC Breda on Saturday, January 12l kick off at 19: 45.
