Ibrahim Afellay scored twice, taking his season's goalscoring tally to eleven, and Ola Toivonen scored his first goal in PSV colours as PSV began life under caretaker manager Dwight Lodeweges with a 3-0 win away at De Graafschap. PSV dominated proceedings entirely and had lots of possession and created many chances.
Afellay and Toivonen scored first-half goals
Nordin Amrabat returned to the starting line-up, with Toivonen leading the line against De Graafschap. Salcido played at left back, while Marcellis partnered Bréchet in the centre of defence. Only two minutes were on the clock when PSV had a golden opportunity to take the lead. Ten minutes later Toivonen came close to piercing De Graafschap's rearguard but the Swedish striker saw his effort hit the post. Dzsudzsák delivered a perfect cross but Amrabat hesitated and the chance went begging. The hosts were forced to defend deeply and PSV's opening goal, scored by Afellay in the 14th minute, was a just reward for their attacking efforts. Toivonen delivered a great pass into the path of Afellay that the midfielder crisply drove beyond keeper Heijblok, 0-1. De Graafschap then went in search of an equaliser. Van den Ouweland had a shot on goal that Isaksson pushed away for a corner and the Swedish goalkeeper also denied De Jong. PSV again took control in the closing stages of the first half and Toivonen extended PSV's advantage after 37 minutes, scoring his first goal in PSV colours from an Amrabat cross.
Superb Afellay goal
PSV were eager to kill off the game straight after the restart. Toivonen thought he had scored another goal with a header, but Schuurman made a last-ditch goal line clearance. At the other end, Sahar had a goal disallowed for offside. De Graafschap introduced a midfielder for a defender as they moved forward in a bid to reduce the deficit. Afellay, however, put the result beyond De Graafschap after 74 minutes. Toivonen headed on a long ball and Afellay started a fine solo run. The Holland international midfielder must have run fifty yards before coolly slotting home; 0-3. PSV had obviously wrapped up the three points as Bakkal and Nijland replaced Amrabat and Afellay respectively. PSV will be next in action on Thursday when they play host to ADO Den Haag at the Philips Stadium, with a 20: 00 kick-off.
