Chelsea have announced that Guus Hiddink will become temporary coach until the end of the season. The Premier League club also revealed that the former PSV manager is due to meet the players later this week. 'The club would like to take this opportunity to thank the Russian Football Union for their understanding and cooperation', said a statement.
'An exceptional situation'
The most successful coach in PSV's history (1987-1990 and 2002-2006) will succeed Luiz Felipe Scolari in London and will combine his responsibilities coaching the Russian national team with managing Chelsea. 'I must admit this is an exceptional situation. If it was any other club aside from Chelsea my answer would be a straight 'No'', said 62-year-old Hiddink. 'But Chelsea is different because I have good relations with the owner.' Roman Abramovich, the billionaire owner of Chelsea Football Club, played a key role in bringing Hiddink to Stamford Bridge.
