There were lots of long faces at the end of Sunday's 1-0 loss to Feyenoord. 'A good performance, a host of chances spurned but no points for PSV', concluded Afellay rightly. PSV coach Lodeweges added: 'This was a must win game. We should have won today in order to keep our UEFA hopes alive. Our own destiny is now no longer purely in our own hands.'
Lodeweges: 'We started tentatively'
'We produced a poor first-half performance. We got three golden opportunities to open the scoring, and we should have taken at least one. But we did not and the goal was scored at the other end of the pitch. We really had great chances to break the deadlock and win the game here in Rotterdam. I think we were not as fresh today as were in the past two games. We started tentatively but improved after the break. This was a must win game. We should have won today in order to keep our UEFA hopes alive. Our own destiny is now no longer purely in our own hands. With seven games remaining, we still have everything to play for, though. We must take each game as it comes, try to win them and just wait and see', said Lodeweges.
Afellay: 'We're not getting anything out of our good performances'
'This result is yet another big blow', admitted Afellay after the game. 'We created a host of chances but failed to take them. We conceded hardly anything but were punished for one moment of sloppy defending. We were the better team in the second half when the game sparked into life. We surged forwards in a bid to rescue a point, but it was not to be. It was a good performance but we didn't get anything out of it. This is a big blow to the squad and to the fans in particular.'
