Carlos Salcido will not cherish the memories of his trip with Mexico to Honduras. Mexico slipped to a 3-1 defeat, the second loss in their World Cup qualifying campaign and the PSV defender Salcido made a premature exit, red-carded in the 87th minute after a second bookable offence.
Mexico suffer second defeat
Carlos Costly opened the scoring for Honduras at the Estadio Olimpio in San Pedro Sula after fifteen minutes. Two minutes before half-time, Carlos Pavon extended Honduras' advantage; 2-0. With fifteen minutes remaining, Costly scored his second goal, wrapping up the points for Honduras. Nery Castillo pulled one back for Mexico; 3-1. Mexico have three points from three games in the final stage of the CONCACAF qualifiers, and are fourth. They will be next in World Cup action on 6 June when they take on El Salvador.
Simons's Belgium crash to defeat
Belgium's hopes of qualifying for the World Cup 2010 in South Africa were dealt another huge blow. The Red Devils, with captain Timmy Simons, could not make amends for Saturday's 4-2 loss in Genk, and crashed to their second defeat in a row against Bosnia-Herzegovina. They were beaten 2-1 in Zenica on Wednesday night. Simons played the full 90 minutes, just like his AZ team mates Gill Swerts and Moussa Dembélé and Ajax defender Thomas Vermaelen. With four matches to go, the Red Devils have seven points. Belgium are eleven points adrift of leaders Spain. The Belgian make a trip to Spain for the next fixture on 5 September.
