PSV hope to end the season on a high. They take on Willem II in Tilburg on Sunday afternoon and are anxious to leapfrog Ajax into third place. 'We want to end the season well and are keen to finish in third place', said Dwight Lodeweges on Friday morning, as he held his final press briefing as PSV head coach.
'Happy to have got our season back on track'
'We will end the season on a high if we leapfrog Ajax. We faced severe problems three months ago but we are happy we've got our season back on track', concluded Lodeweges, who guided PSV to European football next season and stuck with the same starting line up as much as possible. 'We hope to end the season on a high. Wouldn't it be a great achievement if we managed to leapfrog Ajax on the last match day? We faced a tall task overtaking sc Heerenveen, Ajax and FC Twente. We have meanwhile climbed into fourth spot and we still have a chance of finishing the season in third place. We've come from a long way and I'm happy with the progress we've been making the past three months.'
Ibrahim Afellay ruled out for Sunday
PSV will finish third if they beat Willem II and if FC Twente inflict defeat on Ajax. Afellay is ruled out for Sunday's game. 'He only returned to training today and is not available. Toivonen didn't fell well yesterday and today he didn't finish the training session. He is doubtful for Sunday, just as Otman Bakkal who is troubled by an upper leg muscle strain. Edison Méndez and Danko Lazovic will miss the game through suspension. Kick off: Sunday at 14:30.
