The PSV coaching staff and squad watched the UEFA Europa League draw for the third qualifying round at their training camp in Herzlake on the UEFA official site. Coach Fred Rutten, captain Timmy Simons and Holland international Andre Ooijer give their reactions to the draw.
Rutten: 'No preference'
Fred Rutten said PSV had been drawn with an unfamiliar opponent. 'We have precious little information about either team. But there is plenty of time to prepare ourselves thoroughly. The second qualifying round tie between Cherno More Varna from Bulgaria and FC Iskra Stali from Moldavia can go either way after the Bulgarians claimed a 1-0 win in the first leg. We will avail ourselves of the opportunity to see both sides in action. We will learn our fate next Thursday. I have no particular preferences', concluded the PSV head coach.
Ooijer and Simons
André Ooijer once made an appearance for the Dutch team, away against Moldavia. 'The circumstances over there are far from perfect and I know that they often do well at home. We play at home first, so we have to get a good result in the first leg.' Timmy Simons could not agree more. 'A good start is imperative. We cannot take any risks with the return leg looming.' Simons also admitted the two teams are unfamiliar to him. 'We must prepare well. We have no time to make amends. We will try to put the result beyond doubt on 30 July.'
