PSV beat Sivasspor from Turkey 3-0 in an ill-tempered pre-season friendly in Zutphen on Saturday night. After the visitors had been reduced to nine men, following the dismissals of two players, some Turkish fans invaded the pitch and the match was halted in the first half after 26 minutes' play.
Two red cards
The game soon turned into a bad-tempered affair and it was clear from the beginning that referee Kevin Blom was going to have a busy night. Lazovic was the victim of a wild kick and minutes later Cakmak was the first player to be booked for a clumsy challenge on Afellay. Balázs Dzsudzsák beautifully curled the resulting free kick past the goalkeeper after 18 minutes; 1-0. More bad-tempered exchanges were to follow and Mbemba was sent off for a two-footed tackle on Toivonen. Feelings were again running high one minute later when Dagasan was given his marching orders for hitting Dzsudzsák in the face. The tempestuous encounter was not limited to the pitch and when some Turkish fans invaded the pitch, Blom ordered the players off. When the fans had calmed down, it was decided not to play the remaining minutes of the first half, but get the second half under way immediately.
Amrabat and Koevermans
Reduced to only nine men, there was little to be gained for Sivasspor, last season's runners-up in the Turkish league. PSV were faced with a compact defence and Fred Rutten made four changes after fifteen minutes, with Koevermans, Amrabat, Pieters and Bakkal replacing Simons, Dzsudzsák, Marcellis and Afellay. Amrabat doubled PSV's lead with his first touch, unleashing a strike that should not have beaten the keeper. Seventeen minutes from time, Koevermans scored a third goal; 3-0. The changes continued to be made, with Jonathan, Wuytens and Nijland brought on as substitutes. PSV face a more serious test on Tuesday when they take on Belgian First Division side KRC Genk.
