As Phillip Cocu has called time on his career as a professional footballer, PSV will organise a farewell match for one of PSV's greats at the Philips Stadium on Saturday. LuÃs Filipe Madeira Caeiro Figo, or rather LuÃs Figo, the Portuguese star, who played for, among other clubs, Sporting Lisbon, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Internazionale and also for the Portuguese national team, has promised he will join the party.
2001 FIFA World Player of the Year
LuÃs Figo, who will turn 37 this November, spent the past four seasons with Internazionale in Milan. Figo and Phillip Cocu were team mates at FC Barcelona during the 1998/99 and 1999/2000 seasons. But the two players would also face each other, in particular when Figo played for Real Madrid and of course when the Netherlands locked horns with Portugal. LuÃs Figo decided to bring the curtain down on his playing days at the end of last season. He was named footballer of the year in Portugal six times in a row (1995-2000). Figo has also won the 2000 Golden Ball (Ballon d'Or) award, organised by the French magazine France Football and the 2001 FIFA World Player of the Year award. Figo was also included in the FIFA 100, which is a list of the greatest living footballers, as selected by Pelé to mark FIFA's centenary celebrations in 2004.
Van Marwijk and Hiddink
Bert van Marwijk has also promised he will be at Cocu's farewell game. The Holland coach will take charge of 'Team Cocu', together with Guus Hiddink.
