John de Jong will be sidelined for quite some time, now that a second opinion has confirmed that he is troubled by a rare knee problem. The 28-year-old midfielder joined the PSV squad again for the pre-season campaign and was substituted during the friendlies against Olympique Lyon (in Korea) and Borussia Mönchengladbach. He was still troubled by a painful knee and surgery was needed to remove a piece of bone. While he was rehabilitating he was still fighting a knee problem and new examinations were conducted.De Jong explained: "The doctors have told now me my problems can only be solved when I take rest, so I will have to take things very easy the next few weeks at least."This is a terrific blow for the midfielder and it will take several weeks before he will start training lightly again. Mika VäyrynenMika Väyrynen is also ruled out for quite some time. The 23-year-old Finnish international still faces an ankle problem. Väyrynen is not expected to be able to stage a comeback before November.
