Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink is the only PSV player that has been called up by Marco van Basten, coach of the national team, for the final squad that face the Czech Republic and Macedonia in World Cup qualifying games on, respectively, 8 October and 12 October next. Phillip CocuIbrahim Afellay, Theo Lucius and André Ooijer, who were all named for the provisional squad, have not received an invitation. Lucius is sidelined due to an injury and Afellay as well as Ooijer have been dropped. Phillip Cocu was called up for the provisional squad, but the UEFA have suspended the PSV captain for two games, following his dismissal during the qualifying game against Andorra. News that Cocu would be involved in the squad in spite of his suspension is unfounded. "Van Basten has considered the option of calling up Cocu anyway, but he abandoned that idea", responded PSV head coach Guus Hiddink. "Cocu must set himself a target. Together we will draw up a schedule, in which rest is an important ingredient."
