Guus Hiddink had warned his players beforehand that they would have a tough night in Enschede and he was right. FC Twente head coach Rini Coolen was upset by the final score, but he praised his players for putting on a fine display. A very happy man"We knew we would face tough competition tonight", analyzed Guus Hiddink the game at the post-match press conference. "We knew that we could slip to defeat following a perfect week with wins over AZ and Ajax and a draw with AC Milan. But the response of my players has been tremendous. I thought the first half was evenly contested. Koné created the only chance. The two teams were well-matched after the break as well. FC Twente moved men forward in the final stages, but we could hold on relatively comfortably, although a ball can always fall to an opponent. But this is an excellent win and I am a very happy man." Compliment"We lost control during the first half, but after the break we were better balanced", announced Rini Coolen. "We tried to make it a game, but I think both teams created only few chances. Yet I knew the deadlock would be broken. They scored from a set piece and the free kick was superbly taken. We then took all the risks of the world and you need a bit of luck. Gomes pulled off another fine save and we felt the fatigue of 120 minutes cup football earlier this week. Afonso hit the bar. We have given our all and I think my players should be praised for a spirited performance. However, we may feel good, but we have been left empty-handed."
