Ruling Dutch champions have maintained their lead in the Dutch table by a 0-1 win over FC Twente in Enschede. The only goal of the night was scored by Ibrahim Afellay from a free kick. Maximum spoilsIt was a rather one-sided affair for seventy minutes. PSV looked for some space to create an opening and FC Twente played a compact defence. PSV showed passion and concentration. They were all over the place and battled for every inch of soil. They were rewarded for their hard work twenty minutes from final time, when Afellay broke the deadlock from a well-placed free kick. After four straight wins over Heerenveen, AZ, Ajax and FC Twente, PSV are on a great winning streak and have secured maximum spoils. Gomes kept three blank sheets in a row. PSV survived some scary moments in Enschede, but when the final whistle had gone, the only thing that mattered was another three points.Short passing game.The match plan that FC Twente coach Rini Collen had drawn up - control the two lethal PSV strikers Arouna Koné and Jefferson Farfán- proved to be successful. Koné managed to evade his marker Majstorovic once, but goalkeeper Boschker pulled off a save to deny him. At the other end Gomes thwarted an effort from Blaise NKufo. The Twente striker was no match for Alex, but André Ooijer was shown a yellow card for a foul on NKufo. PSV threatened another time when DaMarcus Beasley unleashed a powerful shot that was blocked. PSV tried to find an opening in by playing their short passing game, but were they were unable to breach the solid wall. The hosts opted for counter attacking football and had a well-organized defensive set-up. Afellay goalJan Vennegoor of Hesselink was brought on for Beasley soon after the restart. Both sides had their moments; Bakircioglu fired a dangerous shot on target and Koné hit the bar and Boschker had to stretch full length soon afterwards to push away a forceful Koné shot. Guus Hiddink strengthened his attack by bringing on Robert who replaced Farfán. PSV earned a free kick soon after the substitution had taken place. Ibrahim Afellay faked a long range effort, but set up Cocu, who put the ball back to the young midfielder, who curled it past Boschker inside the post and into the net; 0-1. FC Twente responded furiously and PSV survived a scare when substitute Afonso beat Gomes, but his shot only rattled the post. After Ismail Aissati had taken over from Afellay, FC Twente piled up the pressure and surged forward, but the hosts could not create any proper chances and PSV held on during the final stages.
